Finding Englefield Green Social Hall (By Road):
By car:
Get yourselves to the M25, and head towards Staines, towards Heathrow
(clockwise) from M3 and towards Gatwick (anti-clockwise) from M40/M4.
Get off the motorway at JUNCTION 13. Take the A30 towards EGHAM. This
exit looks like it goes back on the M25, but filters off quickly, so be
careful. Do not go down the A30 to Staines, you'll only have to come back
again :o).
At the next roundabout take 2nd exit, towards ENGLEFIELD GREEN, still on the A30. Go straight over the next roundabout, and up the hill, passing Royal Holloway University on the left. At traffic lights turn RIGHT into ENGLEFIELD GREEN. Go right at the mini-roundabout, and follow the road past the cemetery (left) and local shops (right), until you see the HOLLY TREE public house on your right. Turn right down VICTORIA STREET, just in front of the Holly Tree.
There is a car park about 30 yards down on the left. The Hall is at the
end of the road past a small parade of shops and a church. It is a large
red brick building, on the crossroads, with Harvest Road.
By Train:
Take the Waterloo-Reading line to Egham. Once you get into Egham,
get a taxi, it's quite a walk, and there's a big hill.
EASY BUT LONG ROUTE: If you insist on walking, you leave the station and walk towards Egham. At the traffic lights, turn left and follow the road around until you get to the A30. Turn left up the A30, and walk up the hill, passing the Monkeys Forehead on your right. Take the next right down Harvest Road. The Hall is on the crossroads, with Victoria Street and is a large red brick building.
SHORT BUT COMPLICATED ROUTE: There is a slightly shorter route through
the back streets, but you may well get lost trying it. Use the following
link if you really want to try it this way: www.streetmap.co.uk
(It's close to the middle one of the three churches shown in Englefield
Green - to the left of the map)
Walk out the station and turn RIGHT along STATION ROAD, crossing over a fairly busy road as you go. When you get to the HIGH STREET, turn LEFT and walk along it (away from the town) until you reach a roundabout crossed by the A30; Turn LEFT here and walk up the hill along the A30. There is a traffic island part way up, which is probably the best place to cross over. Turn RIGHT onto MIDDLE HILL and continue up it for quite some time. Eventually, you will find a LEFT turn onto PARSONAGE ROAD - go along here. When parsonage road ends, there is a large red brick building in front of you. This is the social hall.
The social hall is a very closed venue, but it is in a very public position. Please use your discretion when arriving and leaving, and remember that there are 3 pubs in the near vicinity. There is plenty of space to change on site, and we request that you remain inside once in character.
We have had an occasional encounter with drunks leaving the pubs at 11.30
pm, so don't hang around outside, stay and talk, or leave quickly. Please
remove most unusual elements of your costume!
